2014 In-Kind Donors

We would like to recognize and thank all of the sustainable local businesses that have made in-kind food donations to feed the Artists and Crew on the day of the 2014’s event. This event would not be possible without their support.
Alive & Radiant Foodslogo sprout, mix and dehydrate their ingredients at low temperatures so that they remain ‘raw’. Since they never bake or fry, you can rest assured that the fat in their products comes from heart-healthy nuts and seeds. Andy & Cindy Thai Cuisine– With an energy that makes you sweaty just watching, Andy Szachnowicz and Cindy Yang show up at area farmers’ markets to slam out plates of vegetarian Thai food fresh-tasting enough to belie its chafing-dish origins. Avalos Organic Farm is a family operation. Efren Avalos does just about everything: from planting, harvesting, and selling at farmers’ markets. He also recruits his brother, nephew, sons, and close friend, Carlos to help him during the summer months. Avalos works with a local organic nursery in Watsonville to grow his plant starters and buys seeds from Snow Seed in Salinas for planting directly into the ground.

Throughout the rest of our stores we carry a wide array of organic and natural foods, conventional groceries and everyday items.

 

Blossom Bluff Orchards has been family farmed by four generations of fruit lovers. We are currently home to nearly 200 varieties of tree fruit spanning the flavor spectrum from tangy Minneola tangelos to syrupy sweet Hachiya persimmons. Summer is when we really shine, producing everything from classic peaches, plums and nectarines to exotic pluots, apriums and pecotums. Whether they’re historic heirlooms or the newest hybrids, if they taste good, we’ll probably try to grow them.

 

Gabriel Farm is a 14 acre Organic farm located in the ideal fruit growing climate of Sebastopol, California. The Farm features 8 varieties of Asian Pears, several varieties of Apples, Fuyu Persimmons, Lavender, Plums and many sorts of berries. Gabriel Farm is the definition of a traditional “family farm”. This is where we live, work and raise our family. As organic farmers, we are devoted to the idea of sharing the process of raising our fruit with the folks who ultimately will eat our fruit. happy-boy-header-logo-2014-1Happy Boy Farm– Owner Greg Beccio has been growing organically for over 20 years in the central coast region of northern California. Happy Boy Farms is based near Watsonville and tends to multiple plots of lands located in neighboring counties. Each field has a unique microclimate and soil structure, creating a multitude of growing conditions for our wide array of row crops chosen and planted specifically for each region and the changing seasons. All crops are harvested, washed and packed by hand.

 Kashiwase Farms– Kashiwase Farm is owned and managed by Steven Kashiwase and his wife, Lisa. Steven transformed his family’s farm from a conventional operation growing two crops destined for processing facilities, into a mixed orchard producing fresh fruits and almonds for farmers’ markets and a few retail stores. The entire farm has been certified organic by CCOF since 1997.

 

La Tercera by Annabelle Lenderink – Annabelle has an affinity for trying new things. Long before dino kale was popular, Annabelle was growing it and convincing people to buy it. They realized she was right. Unusual squashes, fun varieties of pumpkins, delicious greens and a range of herbs are all growing on Annabelle’s four acre organic farm in Bolinas and a list of the names is sounds like a tour of Europe-Galeuase v’Eysines, Marina d’Chioggia, and Musquee d’Provence. Delicious and unusual, her produce has captured the imagination of chefs and restaurants throughout the Bay Area. The Phoenix Pastificio is a wholesale and retail dealer for uncooked organic pasta and ravioli, fresh-baked breads and pastries and pasta sauces. It uses only organic flour in all pastas and baked goods, and most other ingredients are also organic. The Phoenix Pastificio also serves three main kinds of 12” pizzas for carry-out only, during Mondays through Thursday between 3pm and 7pm. The featured pizzas served are wild mushroom and prosciutto, roast chicken with bell peppers and Greek-style, but customers can request other combinations. The Phoenix Pastificio products can also be found in various local farmers’ markets.  More info…

Quetzalsite_home2010Quetzal Farm produces organic vegetables on ten acres in Santa Rosa, California. Kevin McEnnis started the farm in Santa Rosa in 1999, giving it the name of the national bird of Guatemala, where he planted his first garden. Quetzal specializes in dry farmed tomatoes, sweet peppers, chilies and cucumbers. They also grow onions, basil, squash, and other vegetables. Quetzal Farm also makes canned salsa and other tomato-based products from our vegetables.

River Dog Farm is certified by California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) and is located in the beautiful Capay Valley where rich creek-bottom soil, intense summer heat and winter frost make exceptionally tasty fruits and vegetables. From our fields to your table, Riverdog Farm’s CSA program offers freshly harvested produce, every week, all year round to delivery locations in the Bay Area, Davis, and Sacramento.

 

 

Smit Orchards is located in Linden, California, about 30 minutes east of Stockton Ca., on your way through the foothills going towards Lake Tahoe. Smit Orchards was established in 1969 by the Smit Family. John Smit emigrated from the Netherlands to Northern California in hopes of starting a dairy. In America, he met his bride, Clazien, also from the Netherlands and they both established a dairy ranch. More info…

 

Swanton

Swanton Berry Farm has grown, always on a shoestring and with help from the Santa Cruz Community Credit Union. The dream now includes ten co-dreamers, Jim Cochran, Sandy Brown, Adelfo Antonio, Juan Barranco, Bill Kennedy, Rachel Chatham, Jackie Olivares, Luis Ruiz, Tim Campion, and Tim Hudson. Someday they hope to purchase some land of our own, but for now, we are and renting four beautiful ranches strung along Highway One, north of Santa Cruz, California.

Steven and Suzie Sullivan founded The Acme Bread Company in 1983 to bake bread for restaurants and stores who wanted to offer better bread than was generally available on the wholesale market at the time. Acme supplies bread to dozens of restaurants around the Bay Area including Chez Panisse, where Steven began baking bread in the seventies, as well as two scores of grocery stores and farmers’ markets around the Bay Area.

 

Trade Joe’s – It all started in the 50s…‘Would you believe we started out as a small chain of convenience stores? It’s true. Way back in 1958. We were called Pronto Markets. In ’67, our founder, the original Trader Joe, changed our name (yes, to Trader Joe’s) and the way we do business. We made the stores bigger (if you can imagine), decked the walls with cedar planks and donned our crew in cool Hawaiian shirts.
